Drawing proyect "Journey"

Recently I have been doing more drawings for "the journey proyect", i did this first one in my country this christmas and i chose this place and point of view because it has a meaning to me, and also i have been doing some more drawings on mid tone paper because when i first tried it i really liked the effect that i got, so i´m always coming up with new ideas to try out.

In this case i wanted to explore a bit more the word "journey", what does it really mean? i though that on one side i was perceiving a journey like a physical path, but we can also think of it as our entire lifes, so that´s why i drawed an old women, whose eyes has seen lots of things, and also i drawed her hands because i feel like hands reveal a lot from a person.

Since we had a analog photography lesson i wanted to try taking a few shoots, just in an experimental way, but i like the result so much that i definitely want to develop it further

Lens and digital

The other proyects we had were about telling something with still images, in some of them we just had to put a few photos together, in order to create a story in a narrative way but other ones were a bit more complicated: we had to make a short film with still images, paying attention to sound.

I wanted to try something that i saw in some artists, and it is taking frames from a film, turning them into still images that can build a story, so i did that with a homevideo of mine, just to experiment with a new concept.

But i also took my own photographs (of a friend) and put them together to express something.

Then for the short films i decided to make one more experimental and the other one taking more time, the first one was just relaxing with a friend, trying to record her feelings and what happened, i was also interested in catching the movement, that´s why i shook the camera sometimes while taking the shoot.
In the second one i wanted to narrate something, but in a funny way, so it took more time and patience to make it, and i had to use a tripod, but the difficult part was looking for appropriate sounds that match the film.

Lens and digital

This term we had a few proyects to develop in lens and digital media, this two first photos war a proyect that we had to take one picture of another person thinking about the way she truly is, and other one thinking this time about the way she wants people to see her.

Then we had to do the same but with ourselves.

Other proyect that we had was researching a photographer of our interest, i chose Richie Culver, specifically this picture of a young boy and interpreted it taking a similar shoot.

Drawing Talks - Hans Hartung

Hans Hartung was a German painter that, like the Surrealist was interested in automatic drawing (a process of freely improvised mark-making); his works are paintings very strongly based on drawings.

At first sight you can think it´s very close to Abstract Expresionism but this isn´t true because "to abstract" means simplify a previous idea keeping the same concept and his paintings are not like that, they were not related to any previous idea.

You can also think that they look like "action painting" but those artists showed their body movements in a direct way on the canvas and Hartung wanted to see his mental state in his works, he spent most of the time concentrating, so the actual "painting process" was short.

But the truth is that he made his drawings that way, not his paintings, these ones were made more methodically, by carefully enlarging marks from the small drawings.

He believed it was the only way to maintain their energy on a larger scale (he even kept mistakes)

In class we were discussing about this artist and many of the students didn´t quite like it because what he does is something very subjective, sometimes you can even think that some artists like him just want to make laugh of you and move huge amounts of money, this is what happens with this kind of art, since it´s that controversial, but i think it´s also the beauty of it.
